Summer Holiday 2021 guide – what’s on and ideas on where to go.

Schools will be out for summer soon!… and let’s start planning some summer fun with your family, I have created the ultimate guide that will help you have a blast this summer.

Things to do:

  • Book in to go strawberry picking over at Brockbrushe.
  • The UK’s funniest circus is at Brocksbushes from 17th July to 8th August 2021.
  • Book a meet and greet with your child’s fab routine characters performing on stage – different characters every Sunday at The Palm. – These shows are £5 per child and free for adults.
  • Visit the New Outdoor Adventure Game at Arbeia, South Shields Roman Fort.

Fun little foodies: drop off sessions at Gosforth, Ponteland and Morpeth:

Fun little foodies have put together a range of sessions as part of their summer camp. These sessions are for 5 years old + and are drop off.

Sibling discount is available – if you message the page, they will be happy to share that.

Gutterball, Deals and Events:

Gutterball not only have a range of activities to pick from such as ping pong, their arcade area, pool and golf. They our also running a couple of events over the summer holidays.

They are also running a Parent saver offer over the Summer Holidays from 19th July – 31st August. This deal is 2 games of bowling and a milkshake per child for £10. Monday – Friday before 6pm.

Gosforth Civic Theatre:

Gosforth Civic theatre have a family show running called Wolf on Friday 13 August, 2021, times being 10.30am & 2pm.

With original music, puppetry and a tale you thought you knew…This is suitable for under 5s and their families.

£10 adult ticket, £8 child ticket or £30 for a Family of Four (Family ticket must include at least one adult and one child).

Duration: 45 minutes with the opportunity to meet the puppets after the show. Read more here.

Shipley Art Gallery, Family arts fest:

Over the summer holidays, the Shipley is running the Family Arts Festival with new craft activities each week from the 27th July – 2nd September.

Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday (twice a day, 10.30am – 12:00pm and 1.30 – 3pm.)

Thursday’s sessions are supported by a local artist. This session is suitable for ages 6+. And Tuesday activities are suitable for ages 4+.

Participating child: £3 (plus booking fee)

Younger siblings can attend. Babes in arms or non participating siblings / adults are free (but need a ticket). Please note that you will be supplied with art materials only for the number of people in your party who have a participant ticket. Read more here.

John Lewis, Eldon Square; kids sessions:

John Lewis, Eldon square is hosting a number of virtual events for kids including cookery classes and craft classes.

From baby’s first meal to kids cooking workshops and much more. Prices vary.

Paddle pod: killingworth and shiremoore venue.

Paddle pod have loads of exciting things in store this summer for a jam-packed six weeks at both killingworth and shiremoore including family swims, Two brand-new sensory rooms (0-12mths), Paddle + Play sessions (0-3yrs), Soft play fun (0-5yrs) and Summer swimming lessons.

Pool Fun: There are sessions available seven days a week, at various times throughout the day, and at PaddlePod Newcastle (Killingworth) and PaddlePod North Tyneside (Shiremoor).

During these sessions, you get your very own area of the pool for 60 minutes. Each area is suitable for up to six people (all ages welcome!) from your household or bubble. They stock the area full of toys, floats and small inflatables – POOLS of fun for the whole family. Book here.

Sensory room: They have a brand-new sensory room that is specifically designed for babies aged 0-12 months, and provide them with the opportunity to explore and experience different colours, textures, sights and sounds.

You’ll find sensory room sessions at both venues in Shiremoor and Killingworth, and they run seven days a week. Sessions cost £5 per child (admits one adult). Book here

Softplay fun: their soft play frame at PaddlePod Newcastle (Killingworth) is perfect for little explorers aged 0-5 years old. It’s a great size for them to explore – and for you to keep an eye on them as you enjoy a cuppa, a catch up with friends, and maybe even a cheeky slice of cake.

You can book a table within their soft play area for just £7.50, (£10 at weekends). Each table admits two children into the play frame, and includes a hot drink from our onsite cafe. Sessions are 90 minutes. Book here.

The Baltic Museum:

The Baltic museum have many family activities going on over the summer holidays including free events.

Things to do at the Baltic:

– BALTIC’s Sensory Room is a quiet space to play and explore with sensory toys, projections and lights. You’ll find two sets of fibre optics, a bubble tube, a light table with coloured shapes, projector, two large light-up orbs and cubes, a sofa, two large soft shapes and wipe-able matting in our Sensory Space.

Before visiting they are asking all visitors to book a free group ticket for up to 6 people for an allocated morning or afternoon timeslot; 10.30-12.00, 13.00-14.30 or 16.00-17.30.

The Sensory Room will be exclusively yours for up to 90 minutes and will be cleaned between each booking. Each booking has a maximum of 6 attendees.

– BALTIC’s Learning Lounge is a fun and informal learning space where visitors can chat, rest, learn and play.

If you’ve visited before, you’ll notice their Learning Lounge looks a little different. Upon booking, you’ll be allocated your own Zone in the Learning Lounge. Each Zone will have soft seating, a table and chairs, wipe-able matting and a screen showing subtitled versions of BALTIC exhibition tours and our building-history films. You’ll also receive a special box of books, games and toys to use whilst you’re with us and a set of creative activities to explore in the space or take home with you.

Each Zone can be booked for a maximum of 6 people. There will be two other groups sharing your time slot, in their own socially-distanced Zones.

Before visiting they are asking all visitors to book a free group ticket for a maximum of 6 people, for an allocated timeslot at 10.45-12.15 or 13.15-14.45.

Events on at Baltic:

Make and meets: FREE

Take part in free artist-led workshops this summer from July 25th-5th September, every Sunday 14:00-16:00.

These are drop in sessions and perfect for families with children ages 5-12.

ART IN ACTION TRAIL:

Collect your free map from BALTIC, Wed-Sun 10.30am-6pm and enjoy free creative activities outdoors. For children of all ages and abilities.

Fuel up with free hot drinks, juice and snacks in BALTIC Front Room at the beginning or end of your adventure.

You can begin this Art in Action Trail at BALTIC Gateshead (NE8 3BA) or Dunston Staiths (NE11 9DR). You can collect a free map from both locations.

From your starting point, follow the green route marked on your map. You’ll discover creative activities that can be accessed from a digital device along the way.

You can download them all in advance of your walk here. Head to BALTIC to use the free WiFi before your walk. This will mean you don’t need to use your data to stream the activities.

You may want to bring headphones to hear the video and sound works.

The trail will take approximately 40 minutes (about 2 miles) to walk, plus time to stop, play and take part in activities.

Preston Park Museum: Crafty sessions.

Enjoy a great day out at Preston Park Museum & Grounds this summer. Every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer holidays (20 July – 31 August).

You can drop-in anytime between 10am and 3pm. you can drop into their family art and craft sessions, where you can make something special to take home; there’s no need to pre-book just turn up on the day.

Natures Edge:

Natures edge have fully funded and educational session coming for the summer holidays for many age groups, including young adults too.

POINT BLANK SHOOTING: NEWGATE STREET, NE15RF.

For the six week holidays only, point blank are allowing under 18s to join us between 12-4pm Thursday + Friday, when accompanied by an adult.

Alnwick Gardens:

Kids make the best explorers, which is why The Alnwick Garden have given them the freedom to do it all Summer long. From today, kids are free to explore, discover, roam and play in all corners of their Garden for FREE!

Discovery museum:

Every Wednesday, Discovery Museum have free drop- in events on the outdoor plaza over the holidays, they are suitable for children aged 4-11 but everyone is welcome.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, you can book craft sessions with your family on different themes each week. Each child will receive a bag with five exciting craft activities to make and take home.(£5.50 per child booking essential).

Metrocentre:

If your out shopping and wanting to plan in fun stops for the kids, this is the place to go.

Ouseburn farm:

Ouseburn farm charity have many activities to take part in around their animals this summer such as Rabbit and Guinea Pig petting and grooming, Goat walking, Reptile bathing. You can also Meet the Animals and take part in the Farmers Club.

you can always plan a day out in this area with a visit to Seven stories or Biscuit factory. There is also many food places around too.

Whitley bay Playhouse:

This Summer, the Playhouse in Whitley Bay will reopen its doors to safely welcome
audiences once again.

With a variety of offering available, families are catered for by top North East Producers, Reece Sibbald Productions, with a tropical adventure pantomime, Treasure Island.


Starring “Tucker Jenkins” himself, Todd Carty appears as the villainous pirate Long John
Silver. Whilst Britain’s Got Talent impressionist, Cal Halbert, and, from the Theatre Royal
Panto, Reece Sibbald, return to the Playhouse for their third year to provide hilarious
comedy antics for all of the family.

The Playhouse, Whitley Bay is Covid-secure:

  • One way system
  • Hand sanitisation stations
  • Regular cleaning throughout the day
  • 800+ person capacity (in a 630 seater!) air filtration system (air is cleaned every 10 minutes)
