Over lock-down, Kelly’s Deli started making their own afternoon tea boxes for delivery. And I was kindly gifted one to try out.
The afternoon tea boxes are priced at £9 for 1 person and £16 for a sharer box for 2 people. They also offer local deliver which is £2.
You can order via their Facebook page or telephone (information at top of the post). You can pay either with cash, bank transfer or PayPal too. And they are only available on a weekend.
I’m a huge savoury fan over sweet treats. Therefore, this box was right up my street.
The sandwiches were soft and fresh, and made to perfection, I hate it when you receive a sandwich and it is overloading – these were filled just right.
I received four different fillings, egg mayonnaise, cheese savoury, tuna and cucumber and ham with tomato.
The cheese savoury had to be my favourite, the cheese was not overpowering and you could taste the red onion within the sandwich.
The tuna and cucumber sandwiches were made up in a seeded bread, which normally I’m not a huge fan off but this tasted great.
We also had a selection of cakes from old school cake, to lemon cake and chocolate cake.
The chocolate cake was possibly my favourite and I loved how this had that chewy chocolate texture to it with a rich taste.
I am also a big fan of old school cake, brings back childhood memories. And this was just as good as I can remember back in the days.
They also had their own homemade sausage rolls in there too, you know us Geordies love a good sausage roll and this was one of the best I have tasted.
I love how the sausage was mixed with a certain herbs, it really brought something different than your original.
We then had cheese quiche, I love a good quiche. And I will say this was my favourite part of the box.
I loved that it was proper homemade quiche and how it had a rich flavour to it but not too overpowering. This would of been ideal with with ham or tomato added too.
The afternoon tea box is great for a weekend pick whilst binging the tv – Here’s a list of tv series recommended.
They are also great for birthdays coming up, or to send to your loved ones as a gift.
They also work on delivering special occasion boxes and there recent one coming up is their Easter box.
